14/9/07 The 2006 Auditor-General’s Report is a severe condemnation of the rampant mismanagement and corruption under the third year of Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi’s administration.
Abdullah said he will clean up the government after he came to power in 2003.But three years later the report shows massive mismanagement and corruption throughout the government and every department and ministries.
The abuse and waste of millions of ringgit in public funds as detailed the report is extremely shocking.
I comment the auditor general for an excellent investigation and compilation of a detailed report.
But the question is now is what comes after the report. Will there be investigation? Will there be prosecution? Will there be recovery of the millions lost? Will there be new measures to ensure millions more are NOT lost next year?
Will the 2007 report be same as the 2006 report?
The only way to ensure such malpractices are eradicated is to give powers of investigation and prosecution to the Auditor General.
Merely every year producing a beautiful written report full of scandals that make the headlines is not proper.
As a lawyer with 25 years experience in such matters my suggestion is that the Auditor General be either given powers to investigate and prosecute or works together with the Attorney General and the Anti Corruption Agency to investigate and prosecute and save the public millions of ringgit in tax payer’s money from the corrupt officials.
Clearly the reason why RM RM32 screwdriver is bought for RM224 ringgit is because of kickbacks to public officials. The rot goes all the way to the ministers who are ultimate responsible for the stealing in their ministries.
The Auditor General must handover all his evidence to the police and the ACA and the Attorney General for proper prosecution.
Every case he has cited of corruption and mismanagement must be investigated and prosecuted, even all the way to the ministers.
Otherwise next year we will be reading another beautifully written report listing all the scandals that is growing in numbers under the administration of Abdullah Badawi whose promise to clean up is still not done.
It is pointless to publish yearly Auditor-General reports if crooks are not brought to book
1)Give power to Auditor General to open criminal investigation…
2) Give power to Auditor General to request Attorney General, police and ACA to open criminal investigation…3)
Give power to Auditor General to order officials and ministers to declare their asset…
4) Give power to Auditor General to pursue and locate missing money in the banking system locally and international…
5) Give power to Auditor General to search and seize stolen property and cash…

Probably the AG should look into the contruction of flyover at Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah-Jalan Tambun (Ipoh). The street lights are ‘fantastic’ looking. Do we need to spend tax payers money on these items? These flyovers even have decorative lights at the bottom. Who would want to park their car next to the flyover and take photos because of beautiful scenary?

The Auditor-General, the police, the ACA and the Attorney-General are “gutless pussycats” and expect them to bring the corrupt and crooked officials and minsters to book is a “treason” to the nation in the appropriate sense of the word. The UMNO KING can just put $$$$$$$$$$ to shut the mouths of everybody.
And yes, 2007 Auditor General Report will still be the same old story.
That I can assure you.
