MIC stop meddling in villagers issue. 21/07/2007

Yesterday more then 100 people from Kg. Thye Lee, Ipoh proceeded to hand over a memorandum to the Menteri Besar of Perak(MB). The memorandum among other things mentions the reasons as to why the residents who are third generation residents from Kg. Thye Lee want a permanent place of stay and the government should and must fulfill the promises they have made to the residents.

In 2005 the MB announced that all the residents of Kg. Thye Lee would be relocated to Papan, Batu Gajah and each resident would be given a housing lot. After announcing this major important policy decisions neither neither the MB nor any other officials have done any thing to date to alienate the land in Papan for the residents of Kg. Thye Lee. Why is it so? The reverse is taking place.

The land owner of Kg. Thye Lee is said to have agreed to sell the land to a developer who is closely aligned to the Ipoh Barat MIC. The Developer is now using under hand tactic to evict the residents by illegal means. In fact thugs and gangsters frequent Kg.Thye Lee using all ways and means to forcefully move out the residents. This form of pressure has worked, in that last week 5 families have moved out from Kg.Thye Lee after the 5 residents were paid an undisclosed sum as compensation. Although police reports have been lodged but the thugs and gangsters are elusive to the police!

Yesterday the Memorandum by Kg. Thye Lee residents was to be handed to the MB. But the MB wasn’t in as he had gone to his constituency to meet his constituents so it was handed over to the MB’s special officer Azrul Sani.

As there were alot of allegations of impropriety against the MIC officials Azrul suggested the residents meet up with State National Integration, unity and Consumer Affairs Committee Chairman Dato G.Rajoo. Azrul called for G.Rajoo and later informed the residents that G.Rajoo was not in his office. But Kg. Thye Lee Chairman Sdr. Lourdes over heard the phone conversation where G.Rajoo was said to be in office but he did not want to meet the residents. Why was G.Rajoo reluctant to meet the residents?

In today’s Star newspaper it was reported that G.Rajoo in commenting on the residents protest said there are “three options for villagers facing eviction”. He stated villagers could 1) accept a RM3,500 as compensation offered by the landowners 2) move to the Buntong low-cost flats 3) be settled in Papan. The villagers are asking as to why G.Rajoo failed to put these 3 offers to the offers direct but state these offers in the newspapers.

All the villagers are from the lower income group and what can they do with a compensation of RM3,500? Is this offer fair and reasonable? Rajoo should come out clean and state how he had agreed with the landowners that RM3,500 is a fair amount?

The villagers are willing to meet the landowners, the MB and Dato G.Rajoo in one go to discuss and resolve the land issue. G.Rajoo or the MB by meeting the villagers can tell all on the 3 options and come clean and clear on this matter.
