DAP parliamentarian for Ipoh Barat M Kulasegaran has challenged Works Minister and MIC president S Samy Vellu to a debate over the marginalisation of the Indian Malaysian community.

At a press conference in the Parliament lobby, Kulasegaran said he hoped the time and venue could be decided within two weeks.

This comes on the heels of a heated exchange in Parliament between Samy Vellu (photo) and Ipoh Timur MP Lim Kit Siang, who had accused the minister of being responsible for the "underclass" status of Indians.

Samy defended himself, saying that Indians were "doing far better" than they had been in the past.

However, Kulasegaran begged to differ with the minister’s opinion.

"It is a known fact that the Indians have lost out in almost all aspects of progress compared to the other major communities in Malaysia," he said, reading from a statement.

He said the position of Indians has plummeted during Samy Vellu’s tenure as a cabinet minister, citing as examples the “now worthless” RM100 million Maika Bhd investment fund and the 5 percent drop in the number of Indians in civil service since 1980.

"We have facts and reasons to dispute Samy,” added Kulasegaran.

A buffalo body with a chicken heart, I don’t think Samy dared to take up the challenge. Unless of course, he has the brain other than the brain of a peanut inside.

MIC’s work minister cant provide jobs for the Indian. A group of 9 young Indians in my neighborhood just left for Singapore to work. MIC’s work minister cant even give government’s contracts to Indian’s contractors? Shame on you! Give to Indian’s contractors and you can be assured–no falling ceilings,no bocor,etc…

I agreed that our indian community become worst all the aspect even in goverment sector. How to increase our indian economy.I feel that no such plan work-out and not proper planning done.Why our leaders do want ask to our goverment give same opurtunity like bumiputra getting in all the sector.Indian community also bumiputra and why still our goverment differenshade other community.Indian community haven reach even 1% in economy but other community already reach more than 30%. As per my view Indian comminity surpose get this special compare to other community.I hope goverment policy will changed it so that all community in same level and become as satu bangsa ia itu BANGSA MALAYSIA.Hopely our leaders do something on this matter before our community become more worst.Thanks.

The Indian community should be smarter. It should try to play the role of King Maker rather trying to be the servant of the King. We see the rise of Indian on the tide of IT, why can’t the Malaysian Indian do the same here?
